Flying Start Family Daycare
Daily Routine
A calm, flexible daily rhythm that gives children a balance of play, learning, rest, care, and comfort throughout the day.
Our Family Day Care Daily Routine
This guide shows the general flow of the day. Routine times may vary to meet individual children’s needs, interests, and comfort.
A Routine That Supports Each Child
Our daily routine provides children with a balance of play, learning, rest, and care. The structure of the day helps children feel secure and know what to expect, while still allowing flexibility to respond to their individual needs and interests.
Routines are never about rushing children through the day. They are about creating a calm, supportive rhythm where children can settle well, explore, learn, eat, rest, and enjoy their time in care.
Key Parts of the Day
The day includes familiar routines as well as learning and play opportunities across indoor and outdoor environments.
Morning Arrival & Settling In
Warm welcomes and calm transitions
Children are welcomed warmly into care, supported through the transition from home, and given time to settle through free play, connection, and individual emotional check-ins.
Snack & Group Time
Connection and healthy habits
Snack and group time support conversation, songs, stories, healthy eating habits, and shared learning experiences guided by children’s interests.
Learning Through Play
Indoor and outdoor experiences
Children learn through outdoor play, creative experiences, construction, music, imagination, exploration, and child-led learning supported by the educator.
Lunch & Calm Time
A quieter part of the day
Lunch is followed by a calmer transition into quiet activities, books, puzzles, calm play, and preparation for rest according to each child’s routine.
Rest, Sleep & Quiet Play
Respecting individual needs
Rest and sleep routines are respected individually. Children who do not sleep are supported with quiet activities in a safe, calm, and supervised environment.
Our Approach
Flexible, calm, and child-focused
Routines are flexible and never rushed. Children’s individual needs, routines, and interests are prioritised, with learning guided by the Early Years Learning Framework.
Why Routine Matters
Children Feel More Secure When the Day Has Rhythm
Predictable routines help children feel safe and settled. They support emotional wellbeing, make transitions easier, and give children a sense of confidence because they begin to know what comes next.
At the same time, our routine stays flexible enough to respect individual sleep needs, interests, developmental stages, and each child’s own pace.
A well-paced routine often supports:
- easier drop-offs and transitions
- greater comfort and confidence
- balanced play, care, and rest
- stronger wellbeing and independence
What Families Can Expect
Our routine is designed to feel calm, supportive, and responsive rather than rushed or rigid.
